EvidenceLab delivers publication-ready systematic reviews to researchers, clinicians, and institutions worldwide. Our reviewers are the standard our clients rely on.

Systematic Review Researcher

Remote · Contract · Part-time

Open

We are seeking qualified researchers to conduct PRISMA 2020-compliant systematic reviews for clients across academic, clinical, and institutional settings. This is not a screening or data-entry role. Reviewers at EvidenceLab are responsible for the full scope of a review — from search strategy execution through narrative synthesis and final document delivery.

Engagements are project-based and conducted remotely on your schedule. Reviewers are matched to topics based on subject-area expertise. Volume varies; most reviewers carry two to four active engagements at a time.

What You Will Do

  • Conduct structured literature searches across multiple databases following a predefined search protocol
  • Screen retrieved literature against inclusion and exclusion criteria with documented reasoning
  • Extract structured data from included studies per a standardized extraction protocol — population, intervention, comparator, outcome, study design, sample size, follow-up, effect language, and author-stated limitations
  • Write narrative synthesis across all required evidence domains: direction-of-effect, consistency, population heterogeneity, evidence gaps, and clinical implications
  • Extract per-article risk of bias signals (randomization, allocation concealment, blinding, missing data, selective reporting) structured for formal RoB 2.0 or Newcastle-Ottawa completion by the client
  • Review and finalize the complete systematic review document — methods, results, discussion, references — before delivery
  • Communicate proactively with the team on scope questions, search ambiguities, and any evidence gaps that affect synthesis quality

Who We Are Looking For

Our reviewers are the direct reason our clients trust the documents they receive. We review every application carefully and extend offers only to researchers who meet a high bar across methodology, subject-area knowledge, and writing quality. We do not compromise on this.

Required

  • PhD, MD, or equivalent research doctorate in a biomedical, clinical, or health sciences field
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience conducting systematic reviews — not screening assistance, but full reviews from protocol to synthesis
  • Proficiency in constructing PubMed Boolean search strategies including MeSH controlled vocabulary, field tags, and proximity operators
  • Thorough working knowledge of PRISMA 2020 reporting standards and Cochrane Handbook methodology
  • Peer-reviewed publication record as author or co-author in indexed biomedical or clinical journals
  • Academic-level scientific writing in English — synthesis must be precise, evidence-bound, and publication-ready without editing

Strongly preferred

  • Active role in academic research, clinical practice, or postdoctoral work at an accredited institution
  • Experience applying formal risk of bias tools: RoB 2.0, Newcastle-Ottawa Scale, or GRADE framework
  • Prior experience as a named reviewer or methodologist on a published systematic review or Cochrane review
  • Subject-area expertise in one or more clinical specialties (internal medicine, oncology, cardiology, mental health, epidemiology, or related)

What We Offer

Fully remote

All work is conducted remotely. No fixed hours. You complete assignments on your schedule within agreed deadlines.

Competitive per-review compensation

Compensation is per engagement, structured around scope. Straightforward reviews with faster turnaround earn a premium rate.

Substantive work

You contribute directly to evidence-based clinical practice. The documents our reviewers produce are submitted to peer-reviewed journals and used in clinical decision-making.

How to Apply

Send the following to reviewers@evidencelab.com:

  • Your CV or academic résumé
  • A brief statement (3–5 sentences) describing your systematic review experience and subject-area expertise
  • At least one sample of real completed work — a systematic review, meta-analysis, scoping review, or evidence synthesis you have authored or co-authored. Published papers are preferred; manuscript drafts or thesis chapters are acceptable. We read these in full and evaluate search strategy construction, data extraction quality, synthesis depth, and writing precision — not just whether the document exists.
  • The study goal and formal PICO (Population, Intervention/Exposure, Comparator, Outcome) that drove the systematic review sample you submit. State them in the cover email alongside the file. We use this to assess whether your search strategy and inclusion criteria actually flow from a well-defined research question — reviewers whose PICO and search are disconnected are not a fit.

We review every application and respond to qualified candidates within five business days. Due to application volume we do not respond to applications that do not meet the requirements listed above.
